In the realm of property maintenance, some threats are not as obvious as others. Mold, the silent intruder, is one such threat that can stealthily invade our living and working spaces, posing significant risks to both our health and the structural integrity of our buildings. Often overlooked or underestimated, mold can proliferate quickly and undetected, leading to a range of health complications and costly damages. In this blog, we delve into the crucial significance of mold inspections and why they are a vital component of any comprehensive property maintenance plan.
The Unseen Hazard
Mold, a type of fungus that thrives in damp and humid environments, can take root in various areas of a building, including walls, ceilings, and floors. It can grow unnoticed behind wallpaper, under carpets, or within the ventilation system, making it difficult to detect with the naked eye. The spores released by mold can trigger allergic reactions, respiratory issues, and even exacerbate existing health conditions. Given its elusive nature, it is imperative to conduct regular mold inspections to mitigate its potential hazards.
Protecting Structural Integrity
Apart from its detrimental impact on human health, mold can cause significant damage to the structure of a building. It can weaken the foundation, compromise the integrity of walls, and affect the overall stability of the property. Over time, this can result in extensive and expensive repairs, impacting the long-term value and safety of the structure. By scheduling routine mold inspections, property owners can identify and address mold growth in its early stages, preventing it from causing irreversible harm.
A Comprehensive Approach
Mold inspections are not solely about identifying existing mold growth. They also involve a thorough assessment of the property's environmental conditions that may promote mold development. Professionals conducting mold inspections evaluate the moisture levels, ventilation, and overall humidity within the building. By addressing these contributing factors, property owners can create an inhospitable environment for mold, significantly reducing the risk of future infestations.
Professional Expertise Matters
While some property owners attempt DIY mold inspections, it is essential to recognize the limitations of such endeavors. Mold can be deceptive, and its detection often requires specialized equipment and expertise. Professional mold inspectors possess the necessary training, experience, and tools to conduct comprehensive assessments, accurately identify mold types, and offer tailored solutions to eliminate the issue at its root.
Preserving Peace of Mind
Beyond the physical and financial implications, regular mold inspections offer peace of mind to property owners. By proactively addressing potential mold concerns, individuals can rest assured that their living and working spaces remain safe, healthy, and conducive to a high quality of life. This sense of security is invaluable, fostering a positive and secure environment for all occupants.
Embracing Prevention as a Priority
In the battle against mold, prevention reigns supreme. By prioritizing regular mold inspections as a fundamental aspect of property maintenance, individuals can safeguard their investments and the well-being of those inhabiting their spaces. Proactive measures not only save time and money but also contribute to fostering a sustainable and healthy living environment for generations to come.

Mold is a scary thing to think about because you do not know it is there until it begins to smell or be visible to the eye. When that happens though, who knows how much has spread until some of the contaminated area is removed. Once a piece of wall or whatever has the mold on it is removed, then we can see behind the scenes of how far it went and how much more needs to be removed. Before removing the mold, we spray a chemical that kills the mold, so it no longer spreads and then remove it all.

Mold can be very tricky especially trying to pinpoint where it is all located and where it may have spread too. The only way to really dictate if it is mold is to have SERVPRO of Boone & Clinton Counties come in and do either an air quality test if the mold is not present or cut out a sample if it is visible. Mold is something that you never want to leave untreated or brush it off like it is nothing. Mold is a fungus that grows in the form of multicellular filaments called hyphae. It lives off of moisture and attaches to many surfaces. The way we treat mold depends on the severity, but it consists of spraying microbial on it, which kills it, then wipe it off of the surface. Another way we will combat the mold is by cutting out portions of the wall where mold is present. If you smell the odor of mold or see it, give us a call (765) 918-7871.

Does Your Boone or Clinton County Home Have A Mold Problem?

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
- Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
- Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Conditions In Boone and Clinton County Might Be Right For Mold
7/13/2020 (Permalink)
It’s estimated that more than 1 million types of mold exist, yet less than 10 percent have actually been named. This means mold is very common in both indoor and outdoor environments. While mold and humans can sometimes co-exist without issue, there are certain species of mold that can cause health effects for some people.
If the right conditions exist, mold will grow. Those conditions include:
- Water - Different mold types require varying amounts of liquid before growth begins.
- Temperature - Normal indoor temperatures will promote mold growth.
- Time - Initial mold colonizers can take hold within one day after being exposed to an adequate water supply.
Mold growth can occur in any home, so it’s important to keep an eye out for situations that might promote mold activity. Roof/chimney leaks, wet basements, or condensation from ducts that dampen surrounding insulation are just a few examples of issues that make a house a prime target for mold growth.
