Waiting for Help to Arrive
7/1/2022 (Permalink)
After a fire the first instinct for most people would to first make sure everyone that was in the home is okay. The next thing would be to begin going through belongings and seeing how bad the damage is, but you should NOT do that. Here are some things that you should do before help arrives that will be helpful and not harmful.
1. You should limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from spreading.
2. Coat chrome faucets, trim and appliances with petroleum jelly or oil.
3. Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpet to protect your furniture if it is not charred or has soot on it.
4. Do not clean anything or attempt to wipe anything off until professionals arrive and give the okay.
