Best Practices for Freezing Weather
2/4/2021 (Permalink)
Winter time in Indiana can be very unpredictable. Temperatures can drop at any given time, which could lead to expensive repairs if preventative steps are not taken. Temperatures are expected to drop to extremely cold levels this weekend with frigid temperatures following into next week. Here are some best practices that you can use to make sure you avoid any problems:
- Make sure all faucets that are near an outside wall or exposed are dripping water. Having water continuously run through the pipes, even at a small level, will help prevent pipes from freezing.
- Keep the water shutoff accessible. Just in case a pipe were to freeze and burst, you want to be able to access it as quick as possible. In doing so, you will save yourself a lot of money. Another good idea would be to follow up with everyone in your household, so they know the procedure if something were to happen.
- Be sure to check your furnace and any other heater that you may have in either your house or garage to make sure it is running smoothly. Also, be sure to check doors for any type of crease that air could flow in from. If you can feel air coming through, be sure to get that covered immediately.
