When finished with that, give SERVPRO of Boone & Clinton Counties a call and we will be there within an hour to begin the mitigation process. While we are on the way, it would be best if you moved any furniture that could be damaged if they sit in the water any longer. Moving furniture will also save you money. Most Common Water Loss
7/1/2022 (Permalink)
Most people may not know this but the most common reason for a water loss is a sump pump. Sump pumps are really nice until the mess up for even a minute or two. Once they have a minor fault, it could shut off and not power back up until someone notices its off and usually when someone notices it is when there is standing water in their home and its too late. It is recommended that you do monthly checks on your pump to ensure it is running correctly and if it is not, have someone come out and look at it immediately.
Natural Hardwood Floor
7/1/2022 (Permalink)
Natural hardwood floor is different than typical flooring. Typical flooring whether it be wood or vinyl would need replaced if water had settled underneath it, but hardwood floor is different. If it is natural hardwood floor, we could set up some equipment and suck out all the moisture and over a little bit of time the buckle will go away. Natural hardwood is expensive so not having to replace it will save a lot of money. If the moisture does not come out of the natural hardwood because it had sat for too long, we will then have to cut it out and replace it which can be a pain depending on the wood finish and where it is located.

Water Heater Maintenance
7/1/2022 (Permalink)
Water heaters are necessary in every home or business and need to be maintained to ensure no problems occur. Here are some tips from SERVPRO of Boone & Clinton Counties to maintain a long lasting water heater.
1. Before doing any maintenance on your water heater, shut off the power at the service panel.
2. Once every three months, drain one gallon of water from the tank. If you have hard water, do this every month to reduce sediment collecting in the bottom of the tank.
3. Once every two years, have your water heater inspected by a service technician.
4. Once every five years, have a service technician replace the anode rod.
Little Water Damage
3/4/2022 (Permalink)
Water is a very necessary thing in our daily lives, but it can also cause some headaches when pipes burst or leaks occur. When people think of water damage, they think of standing water, but sometimes just a little bit of water can cause the same amount of damage. If a water loss were to occur and be stopped before a lot of water found itself on the ground, depending on where the water goes will dictate how much damage there could be. If it is on cement, it will dry in no time as long as it did not run into any walls or carpet. If it landed on carpet or found its way to carpet, that could lead to some bigger issues because of the padding underneath. In some cases, SERVPRO would have to cut out all your pad if id did not dry, and in some cases, if the pad is old enough, we would have to remove a whole room even though it did little damage. Water can be tricky, so when a loss occurs, it is best to call SERVPRO and have the professionals handle it.
Melting Snow
2/11/2022 (Permalink)
Indiana weather can be very unpredictable when it comes to weather. It can be sunny and 60 and the next have heavy snowfall. When we get a heavy snowfall, people always shovel driveways and sidewalks, but forget about some other areas that may need to attention. Those areas would be around any gutters, exposed pipes outside or even windows that lead to basements or lower levels that could allow water in when it begins to melt. If there is a large mound of snow near a window or any possible entryway to a lower level of a home, it could lead to water damage. Another thing to check on while snow is melting is your sump pump. It could get overworked due to all the water and shut off. Most sump pump failures that we have seen is do to being overworked and shuts down for a short period of time. Take necessary precautions and if any water comes inside your home, give us a call.

Water Mitigation Process
7/27/2021 (Permalink)
Whenever SERVPRO of Boone & Clinton Counties gets a water call, we load up our van with dehumidifiers, fans and tools that may be needed to take off baseboards and cut carpet and or drywall. Once we get to the job, depending on the severity, we will either begin extracting water or if there is no water standing, we will begin getting readings to determine how wet the walls and floor is. After that, we begin taking off baseboards, taking up carpet pad and carpet if needed and cutting out a little bit of drywall to help get airflow inside the walls. Once that is complete, we set fans in different areas of the affected area and let them run for 2-3 days. SERVPRO of Boone & Clinton Counties monitor daily and remove fans when the area is dry. After that, we begin other work if needed such as demo and rebuild.

Sump Pump Failure
7/21/2021 (Permalink)
A sump pump is great to have and amazing when it works, but if it ever has a fault or stops working entirely, it could lead to some major problems. A sump pump is a pump that is used to remove water that has come into the home and are commonly found in basements. When a sump pump fails, there is no way for it to know when water is getting to high, which then leads to flooded basements and costly repairs. Once the sump pump fails and water stops flowing, it is a good idea to go check on the sump pump and try and determine the issue. The next thing you would want to do is contact SERVPRO of Boone & Clinton Counties to come out and extract the water that has settled in your basement. After getting the water out, SERVPRO will then try and pinpoint the issue, so they can give a solution on how to fix the sump pump. Sometimes it could just be a power surge that made it fail and all it takes is a reset of the breaker. Other times, it could actually be faulty and need replaced.
Tips for Heavy Rain in the Forecast
7/21/2021 (Permalink)
An abundance of rain in the forecast can be good for our gardens and grass but can lead to some issues if you have any cracks or holes leading into your home. It can also be bad on your sump pump to as it could get overworked and fault. Here are some tips that you could use to ensure no water will get in during a heavy rainfall. First thing would be to check the lowest points of your home for any cracks, holes or anything else that may let water in. The second thing that you should do would be to check your sump pump to ensure that it is working properly. To check the sump pump, fill a bucket with water and pour it into the basin (hole) where the sump pump is to make sure that it turns on when it should and drain the water. The last thing that you should do is check all doors and windows to make sure they are secure. If anything does happen during the rainfall, contact SERVPRO of Boone & Clinton Counties and we will be there to help you get the problem taken care of.
